BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO WEARING MEDICAL STOCKINGS
Step-by-Step Guide to Wearing Medical Compression Stockings
Did you know that venous blood has a harder time flowing back to the heart compared to arterial blood? That’s exactly why medical compression socks were created.
They work by applying graduated compression therapy — tighter at the ankle and gradually looser toward the calf — which helps push blood from the lower legs back up toward the heart. This can effectively prevent and relieve blood pooling in the legs.
For best results, wear compression stockings in the morning — before swelling begins. To get the most benefit, proper wearing technique is key.
Let’s go through the steps together.
1. Steps for Wearing Medical Compression Stockings
① Make a fist and gently insert your hand into the stocking. Grip the heel section and turn the stocking inside out down to the heel.
② Use both hands to slide the stocking over your toes, pulling it up to align the heel. Then adjust the toe area to ensure a smooth and snug fit.
③ Use your fingertips to hold the inside-out edge of the stocking, gently pull it over the ankle, then turn it inside out.
④ Then, gradually pull the stocking upward toward the knee, working it up a couple of finger-widths at a time.
⑤ When putting on compression pantyhose, turn the stocking inside out except for the foot section. Insert your foot into the stocking, then gently pull it upward toward the knee.
⑥ Put on the other stocking using the same method.
⑦ Smoothly pull and adjust the stocking until it fits comfortably around the thigh.
⑧ Stand up, insert both hands into the thigh area, and push the pantyhose outward and upward until the waistband sits in place. Then, adjust it gently to fit smoothly around the waist.
2. Wearing & Care Instructions
① When putting on or adjusting compression socks, avoid pulling on the elastic band or seam area to prevent damage and extend the product’s lifespan.
② To enhance comfort, you may gently adjust the position of the top band several times throughout the day.
③ Care Tip: If there are no open wounds, we recommend applying lotion before wearing your compression socks. Allow it to fully absorb before putting them on. And please avoid applying lotion to the anti-slip areas, as it can reduce their grip.
④ If thigh-high stockings tend to slip due to leg shape, we recommend switching to a pantyhose style for improved fit and stability.
⑤ The compression function may be affected by excessive stretching or improper handling. Hand washing is strongly recommended to maintain even pressure distribution.
⑥ If you decide to use a washing machine, put your compression socks in a laundry bag and wash them in cold water (below 30°C) with a gentle detergent that doesn’t contain bleach or brighteners.
With a thorough understanding of proper usage and maintenance, you will be well-equipped to deliver consistent and professional after-sales support to your customers.
